On holiday trips, we were mainly camping. So we ‘lived’ a lot of times in tents and later our cars became our best holiday homes.  

For our honeymoon in 1956 we went to the Alps with our motorbike and our new tent.

Living in Berlin, during the Cold War with two small kids holiday travel was just not in.

When we migrated to Australia in 1960 we started as soon as we had a car to explore this big land.

Late 2014 we decided that keeping the house in Katoomba is not really a good idea since our daughter and family had moved away from the Blue Mountains to the Mid-North Coast. Their property on the outskirts of Bellingen had a large toolshed which could be transformed into a little house on its own. So we sold the place in the Blue Mountains and invested into changing the shed into a granny flat. Within 4 months our daughter had transformed that dump into a most comfortable little home for us. 

Now we lived again in 2 places, in ahold suburb of Sydney, close to the  city and over 500km further north at the outskirt of a small rural country tow . We stayed a few months here and a few month there. When Covid became a big problem in 2020 we decided to live in Bellingen permanently.The Balmain flat was empty and sometime some grandchildren live there.

It was a great challenge and joy to establish a new garden, turning a building site into an oasis.

Since 1992 we own a little flat in Balmain and after more than 12 years having had tenants in it, it needed serious renovations. We worked on it hard with some help from a friend. And the longer we were there the more we loved the place. The view over the harbour and the city was fantastic, ever changing. So it did not take long that we decided that we wanted to live there. The flat was very small, just one bedroom and only a kitchenette off the living room. But how about living in 2 places, in the cottage in Katoomba and the flat im Balmain. That way we were close to the children with families in Sydney and also could be with the youngest grandchildren, the twin in the mountains. The ideal solution for over 10 years.
