4.1.3

On the old dock site apartments have been build

and the old amenities block has become a gym with pool.

Adjacent is a Birrung Park with an Art Space.

There are some great old houses,

including at Grafton Street the one time residence of Henry Parkes, 'The Father of Federation'
There are also many little parks tucked away,
like Ewengton Park with the Water Police next to it,

and further on some vacant land were once an incinerator stood.

Up and down some lanes and narrow streets and back to the waters edge.

There I saw a pelican swimming slowly for a while and then take off.
Such a beautiful sight.
I love pelicans.

And onto Peacock Point, where the coast line of the Balmain Peninsula turns sharply to the north.

Now we are back at Darling Harbour.

At Illoura Reserve are great views of the Harbour Bridge and the City.

At the end of the park  stands a decaying1880s sandstone building, the Bell Store,

it is currently being restored and will become a community facility.

Right next to it is Balmain East - Darling Street Wharf, ferries go from here to Darling Harbour and Circular Quay.

Also busses leave here to the City and suburbs.
