 JUNE

The school where Hart was teaching had a sister relation with a school in Tokyo.

So in 1987 we went there for a one week visit to arrange an exchange. We stayed with the family of a teacher and a long friendship developed. Sightseeing with a person living there was the best way to get to know a place.

  MAY

We have visited China a few times.

In 1972 we went to Hong  Kong for the first time, a stop-over on our way to Berlin. It was only a few days to get duty free things.

And again in 1981.

In 1985, just when China opened its borders to foreign visitors, we went for one week over Easter to Beijing. The Communist regime was still dominating every aspect of life.

In 2010 we spend 4 days as a stop-over again in Shanghai.

 APRIL

Another great adventure was our trip to Nepal in 1986. We went with a group of TAFE students on a 4 weeks excursion to Kathmandu. Best was that the two of us went alone on a 2 weeks trip along the Langtang Trek. We hired a guide, 2 porters and a cook and slept mostly in a tent. We started from Trisuli and got to Syabru Village, and a bit further on to Singh Gompa, an old  Buddhist Monastery at 3300m elevation.  In the 1980s hiking treks in Nepal, besides the Mt Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Treks, were not so well developed for tourist as they are now. These long exhausting lonely walks along a most beautiful landscape were absolutely fabulous.
